This is the most exciting news ever!! My ‘Biscuit Crazy’ pattern and my face (aargh), appear in this month’s Love Sewing Magazine . I am beyond excited.
Lovely editor, Amy Thomas, asked me if I would like to design a fabric pattern for a magazine feature she was writing, about the print-on-demand website Contrado.
Hello? Dream come true!!
The brief was to design a multi-directional print that was fun and colourful and fairly small in scale that would suit a dress. Amy makes the most gorgeous dresses in fabulous prints so I had an idea of her style. I had some sketches I had been working on and thought they would make a really fun print in a ‘Pop art” inspired colour scheme.

My design presentation to Amy
I must admit I was a little nervous when I presented my design. As a designer, this can be quite daunting and you always wonder if it’s up to scratch and will meet someone else’s vision. I had nothing to worry about though, as Amy loved it.
Ordering from Contrado was very easy. I read all their info about file size, resolution and colour space and had a swatch pack of their fabrics which made choosing what we wanted so easy. We chose a cotton satin and a soft velvet. I absolutely LOVE the dress and squishy cushion she made from them. I have some of the fabric myself and may make some cosmetic bags or a little coin purse.

My neighbour’s kitty wanted to help!

The magazine is out today (7th September). If you haven’t come across Love Sewing I wholly recommend it. It really is jam-packed with amazing free patterns and loads of style ideas. OK, I am a little biased but it really is a good buy. You can buy it online at Craftstash or at most supermarkets in the UK.
Check out Amy’s instagram to see some of the gorgeous frocks she makes. What a talent she is!
See you soon
